Nosferatu Acting Critique

First of all I found Nosferatu very difficult to watch let alone enjoy. I do enjoy classic films, just not silent ones. Also ancient vampire movies don't interest me. Nothing against Vampires since The Vampire Diaries has been my current favorite TV show for years now, just the tales of Dracula or Nosferatu don't appeal to me.

But on to the acting. At first I had no idea if the protagonist was a man or a woman pretending to be a man, but that's not really an acting flaw, but really just a casting/hair/makeup flaw. I expected all of the performances to be full of "over acting" and over dramaticized, especially since it's a silent movie and facial expressions and hand movements are really only what they have. I was surprised to find that most of the performances seemed to not be emotional or reactional enough.

I didn't find any of the characters to be likable, nor was I really drawn to or rooting for anyone. I found them all annoying really. The male protagonist was always running around or scared. He was able to convey scared, but I imagined he could have looked more fearful. The girl was so annoying, nor did she look as terrified as she could have been. And Dracula. I'm not sure if his mask was permanently frozen in one expression, or if the actor actually had control of it, but I don't recall seeing any changes in expression. Just a lot of lackluster hand movements which really didn't convey anything to me but a pitiful attempt to come across as scary, but failing miserably.
